TRIATHLON: Countdown is on to firmus energy City of Derry Triathlon
Race director of the firmus energy City of Derry triathlon, Adrian Kelly, said: “The relay option is perfect for those not quite ready to tackle a full triathlon and allows participants to divide the three stages of the race between team members.
“For example, the 750m open water swim in the River Foyle for the team member who likes to make a splash, a 20km closed road cycle for the budding cyclist and another can then close the race with a 5km flat run taking in key attractions around the city including the iconic Peace Bridge.

Angeline Murphy, marketing manager for firmus energy, commented: “This year’s event is set to be bigger than ever and we are keen to ensure the race is open to everyone and that people of all capabilities take part, ranging from professionals and experienced triathletes through to novices and first-timers.
“Taking part in a relay can give new people a real taste of being part of a team and achieving a goal. It is often just the thing to whet people’s appetites for triathlons and many of our previous relay competitors have gone on to complete the full challenge in subsequent years.”
There promises to be a great buzz across the City with plenty of extra events to enhance the Triathlon experience for both adults and children. With a ‘buddy swim’ in the Foyle where child-adult partnerships can participate in a fun race, a TRYathlon for 8-15-year-olds the week before the main Triathlon and a party atmosphere on the big day; something for all the family.
