Profumo wife in Larne to open TA centre
Valerie, wife of Secretary of State for War John Profumo, lived at Chaine Memorial Road as a baby, whilst her father, a Royal Navy commanding officer, was stationed in the town during World War I.
Commenting on her return to Larne, she said: “I have enjoyed nmy brief visit this time so much. I have had such a friendly welcome that my husband and I will be back shortly for a touring and fishing holiday.”

Hide AdAccording to the East Antrim Times, Mrs. Profumo had been “elegantly dressed in a swing Raglan style coat in kingfisher blue” with a high-crowned bowler hat of the same colour.
She had a brooch of the Royal Ulster Rifles pinned to her by Lieut. Col RGM Maddocks of the 6th Battalion TA.
It had been presented by Major D Moorehead (Royal South Downs) on behalf of the battalion and architects of the new building.
