Larne Post Office part of £2.5m scheme
Larne was to get one of the first new-look Post Offices in the United Kingdom as part of a £2.5 million modernisation programme.
The scheme was announced by the Postmaster General in July 1960.
Four Belfast Post Offices were also to be included at Donegall Square; Great Victoria Street; Shaftesbury Square and Cromac Square.

Hide AdThe first of the new-look Post Offices was located at Mayfair in London.
Old wooden panels and bronze railings were to be replaced with “modern decor” including a black, white and grey counter with coloured patches.
The counter was also to be fitted with a glass screen and aluminium fittings. They were “designed to be fit for purpose, pleasant and modern”.
