Walter (Paddy) Sloan, from the Hill Street area, was, as 15 year old, asked to sign for Arsenal but it was not until two years later that he moved across the water to Manchester United.
As a right half he signed for Arsenal after the war and he became one of the first players to be transferred to the Italian league when Milan paid £12,000 for his services.
