McAllister seventh at Gerald Long Road Race
On Sunday past Ballymoney Cycling Club sent one of its young riders Stevie McAllister to represent them at the Gerald Long Road Race.
This race was held over five laps of a twisty, hilly, testing course. Stevie was entered for the new A4 event and from the start was flanked by cycling colleagues and friends Alastair Bratten (RV) and eventual 5th finisher Gary Kendal (BW). The three lads pushed the pace up and saw the testing course get rid of many of the 55 starters.

Robert Armstrong opened a gap of 25 seconds. Frantic riding by the bunch saw the eventual reeling in of McAllister and Armstrong forged a winning gap at the finish line.
McAllister not happy at making the winning break, set off at the final corner to secure 2nd place with a blistering sprint only to run out of energy in the dying meters to finish 7th overall.
When asked at the finish how he felt the Ballymoney CC rider replied: “I done too much too early on and then lost the legs at the last!”Alastair and Gary both finished in the race.
