Joey’s Bar triumph in penalty shoot-out
With the teams deadlocked at two goals each after ninety minutes, the game went straight to penalties and Joey’s won by a whisker with Dunseverick missing a couple of chances to clinch the title.
Joey’s owe their success to the brilliance of goalkeeper known to his team mates as Johnny ‘Doc’ who pulled off a couple of spectacular saves during the penalty taking.

Hide AdDunseverick goalkeeper David McKendry was probably the outstanding player for Dunseverick with two stunning saves during the game as well as a superb penalty stop.
It was a close as the scoreline suggest and neither team deserved to lose after putting on a gritty display with some good football played.
Dunseverick dominated for much of the early period with veteran Karl Smith a calming influence in the centre.
Joey’s Bar were the more energetic but fell behind after a mix-up in their defence which allowed Chris McKendry to score.

Hide AdJoey’s equaliser was a tragedy for the experienced defender Danny Graham who paid the penalty for trying to dribble his way out of goals and was caught on the hop by Mark Blair who had a simple tap in.
Brent Smith then restored Dunseverick’s lead before Paul Robinson equalised for the second time from the penalty spot for Joey’s.
Dunseverick’s legs tired towards the end and Joey’s created some useful chances only to see goalkeeper McKendry produce a remarkable stop which matched an equally impressive first half save.
Tournament organiser Tommy Doherty was pleased with the standard of the game and the excitement generated by both sides. He congratulated Joey’s Bar and said it was a pity either side had to concede victory.
