Watch out: Tax scam doing the rounds in Cookstown
The email contained the promise of a tax rebate and was seemingly sent by HMRC.
“Thankfully the intended victim was suspicious of it,” police said, “and forwarded the email to HMRC who confirmed it was a scam.”

Hide AdThe force, however, is advising people not to open emails unless they are from someone they know or they know what it is.
It has also suggested caution in relation to attachments as they could contain damaging viruses.
“We’ve received another report of a scam email doing the rounds,” PSNI Cookstown said on its Facebook page.
“A lot of companies have email addresses that you can forward such emails to - check out their website for details,” it added.
