Warning over email scam

Mr O’Dowd said, “The email came to light after it was sent to a local woman who became suspicious when she noted the link contained in the email asked for her bank details.

Hide Ad“She contacted PayPal, who confirmed it was a bogus email and they are now investigating the case.”
Mr O’ Dowd said, “With so much Christmas shopping now taking place over the internet the fraudsters are trying to catch people off their guard and trick them into returning bank information.
“However, you should never pass such information on to an unsolicited email or phone contact. Always contact the company through a trusted number or email.
“Undoubtedly, a quick check by the woman in this case prevented money being stolen from her bank account.”
