NI hedges are113,648km long
Fields Minister Michelle O’Neill revealed there is an estimated 113,648 kilmoteres of hedgerow in Northern Ireland.
Green MLA Stephen Agnew asked her about it at the Assembly.
She replied: “My Department does not hold statistics on the total area that is covered by hedgerows.

Hide Ad“The NI Countryside Survey is published by the NI Environment Agency (NIEA) and provides statistics on lengths of field boundaries, with the most recent published survey in 2007 estimating some 113,648km of hedgerow.”
That’s nearly three times the circumference of earth (40,075km) and almost a third of the way to the moon (384,400km).
