The golf club had hoped that adjacent to the Antrim Road could be transformed into a sheltered driving range which can be used both day and night.
The application received four letters of objection and was turned down by planners at last week’s council meeting.

Hide AdPlans include two 10 metre floodlight masts, 14 ground-mounted floodlights and 10 covered pitching bays.
Planners refused the application stating: “The proposal is contrary to Policy OS 7 of Planning Policy Statement 8: Open Space, Sport and Outdoor Recreation in that it has not been demonstrated that the proposed flood lights would not have unacceptable impact on the amenities of people living nearby.”
They added: “Having notified the agent under Article 7 (4) of the Planning (General Development) Order (Northern Ireland) 1993 that further details regarding the proposed ball catch netting were required to allow the Department to determine the application, and having not received sufficient detail and information, the Department refuses this application as it is the opinion of the Department that this information is material to the determination of this application.”
Following news of the refusal Councillor Stephen Moutray requested a meeting with planners to further discuss the proposal.
The date has not yet been set for the meeting which will include councillors from all four main political parties.
