Mayor backing Blood Transfusion Service
In advance of upcoming local blood donor sessions in Ballymena on Tuesday and Wednesday, August 11 and 12, Cllr Ashe welcomed the Service’s Recruitment & Organisation Manager, Paul McElkerney to his Parlour and pledged to give blood himself by way of example.
Cllr Ashe said: “The Northern Ireland Blood Transfusion Service needs to attract many new donors to ensure a safe supply of blood to our hospitals. In Northern Ireland upwards of 1,300 units of blood are used by 500 patients each week, yet 94% of the eligible population still do not give blood.
