MALLUSK INCINERATOR: Planning appeal hearing postponed until October
Members of the NoArc21 group, which represents local residents opposed to the controversial Hightown Quarry plan, spoke out after last week’s pre-appeal hearing at the Planning Appeals Commission in Belfast.
The date for the hearing regarding arc21’s appeal, which was set to be held on Tuesday, May 24, has now been postponed until Tuesday, October 11.

Hide AdColin Buick, chairperson of NoArc21, said: “The request by arc21 legal representatives to argue, and be granted, a postponement of the full hearing date is extremely disappointing for all involved. Once again the lives of the community most effected by the incinerator project on the hills of north Belfast, Newtownabbey and Antrim are being placed on hold.”
The proposed arc21 incinerator site is situated off the Boghill Road in Mallusk. It is less than one kilometre away from residential areas.
