Two other males were in the area and police spoke to them but both were extremely intoxicated and they said the defendant was ‘acting the c—t’ in the middle of the road.
When interviewed later he said he had consumed a large amount of alcohol and had no recollection of what happened.
A barrister representing the defendant said Hughes had gone out drinking with a friend who had vomited in a taxi and they had been put out.
He said his client had suffered a broken femur, tibia, fibula, cracked ribs and lacerations to his body.
