Guildhall reception honours '˜great ambassador for our region'
The Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council, Alderman Hilary McClintock, hosted the welcome for the Eglinton man and has family.
Jason’s first place finish in the Men’s 100m T13 Final at the Olympic Stadium in Rio was his fifth Paralympic gold medal following his 100m and 200m success at the Beijing and London games.

“Jason has been putting local athletics on the international map for several years now and has been a great ambassador for our region as he competes across the globe.
“The fact that he has stayed at the top of his game for so long is a testament to his dedication and professionalism and he is a great role model for any young person in the city and district aiming to fulfil their potential in their chosen sport.”
Among those enjoying the special reception with Jason, who is a former pupil of Limavady Grammar School, was his wife Elise, daughter Evie, parents Lloyd and Diane and grandparents, Heather and Robert Smyth and Hilda Hastings.
