El Salvador enterprise given Carrick support
Carrickfergus Grammar’s year 14 Business Studies class when learning about business ethics decided to contribute to a loan to an enterprise from El Salvador.
Maria Ana De Jesus earns a living selling sweet breads and the loan from the Carrick pupils will help her invest in a roof and windows for her business.

A statement from the school added; “Kiva seeks donations from individuals and organisations in wealthy nations, to support businessmen and women in developing countries.
“These entrepreneurs in less developed countries have the ideas and desire to support their own families and communities but are held back by a lack of available finance.
“Rather than receiving ‘hand-outs’, developing their business using the Kiva loans means the entrepreneurs can be self-sustaining long after the small loans have been repaid.”
