Debt Action helps local people
Credit card debt of £2 million accounted for most of this debt, followed by mortgage debt of nearly £1.75 million and mortgage shortfall debt of nearly £1 million. The average debt per person who contacted the service was £30,547.
The service is funded by the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Investment.

“These figures reflect how hard the recession and the housing market crash have hit the people of Lisburn. Many coming to the service can no longer cope with their mortgage and often want to walk away. Families are being hit hard in the local area because of the higher cost of living and lower wages. Many are struggling to make ends meet.”
