Police targets on domestic violence challenged at DPP
The issue was raised at last Monday night’s meeting of Coleraine District Policing Partnership in Kilrea Town Hall.
DPP member Angela McLaughlin commented on a local policing target to increase the detection rate for “domestic violence with injury crimes by 5%”.
She asked why specify only incidents with injury?

“It is possibly because they were deemed to be at the high end of domestic violence incidents,” he said.
Ms McLaughlin said: “I would argue that all domestic violence is injurious whether it is physical or not.”
Agreeing, Chief Inspector Thompson said that such targets are set annually and urged the local DPP to give feedback on any aspect of the plan they had concerns about.
