Man assaulted his girlfriend
A two-month jail sentence, suspended for two years was imposed at Londonderry Magistrates Court on a man charged with disorderly behaviour after he hit his girlfriend on the face during a heated argument.
George Martin Mullen, of Victoria Road, Bready, pleaded guilty to disorderly behaviour on June 27, but was not charged with assault because the injured party refused to make a statement to police.
Imposing sentence Deputy District Judge Terence Dunlop said it was an horrendous offence.
“It is highly objectionable to assault a female in that way.”
