To coincide with the naming of the Council, an interim Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council website www.lisburncastlereagh.gov.uk was launched this week.
The council’s Presiding Officer, Councillor James Tinsley, said that it was very important that Lisburn’s city status be retained in the title.
“When it originally applied for city status, Lisburn Council took the careful and deliberate decision to make an application on a borough-wide basis. This means that any changes to the boundary area must be included within the City and as a result we are delighted to welcome Castlereagh into the City.

The interim website will be available while a new fully functioning and integrated website is developed for the council opening in spring.
The Chief Executive of Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council, Dr Theresa Donaldson, said: “This is a very exciting time for Lisburn and Castlereagh and the Council is very much looking forward to working with the public and building a strong and vibrant Lisburn and Castlereagh City Council area.”
