Braidside flying high after winning Aer Lingus rugby prize
Competing against hundreds of other children from across Northern Ireland, Emma designed the winning rugby jersey design that best represented Aer Lingus becoming the official airline partner of Ulster Rugby.
Despite the tremendous response to the Aer Lingus Art for Schools Competition, which receiving more entries than ever before, Emma beat off the stiff competition with a design that showed not only a great artistic concept but also a functional design.

Hide AdThe judging panel including Valerie Abbott, Commercial Manager of Aer Lingus in Northern Ireland, Nadia Duncan, Editor of ni4kids and Phillip Polack, Business Development Director of Ulster Rugby unanimously agreed that Emma’s design was outstanding.
Valerie Abbot said of the winning entry: “Emma captured perfectly Aer Lingus becoming the official airline partner of Ulster Rugby with her jersey design in Aer Lingus green. We loved the way she managed to combine her creative ideas for both the airline and Ulster Rugby so artistically together.”
Emma and her classmates will fly to London Gatwick from George Best Belfast City Airport with Aer Lingus to visit some of London’s greatest attractions including the London Eye and the Sea Life Aquarium as well as all the famous sites and stores that the city has to offer.
Mr Derek Calderwood, P6 class teacher at Braidside Integrated Primary School relayed the excitement of his winning class by saying: “ The entire P6 class is ecstatic at winning the Aer Lingus Art for Schools competition. The children are so excited about their impending trip to London.
“I would like to say a big thank you to Aer Lingus for giving our children at Braidside Primary School this fantastic opportunity.”
