Atmosphere ‘electric’ at pipe band contest
Organised by the Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association (Co.Down Section) in partnership with Craigavon Borough Council, the wet weather didn’t dampen the spirit of competitors who put on a fantastic musical display to entertain visitors and guests alike. Local winners included Marlacoo & District Pipe Band who won first prize in Grade 4a, and Bleary and District Pipe Band who were placed 1st overall in Grade 2 along with best drum corp and bass section. Battlehill Pipe Band took first place in Grade 4b.
In addition, Field Marshal Montgomery won 1st place in the group one competition with Ravara Pipe Band coming in second. While listening to the terrific melodies played throughout the picturesque Park, visitors also sampled a wide range of delicious food and treats at the Artisan Food Village located in the Park from suppliers including Hilltop Honey NI, Laura’s Larder, Red Dog, Heavenly Cupcakes, Milkymoo Shakes, Cirillo, and the Cuban Sandwich Factory.

Hide AdAttending the event and distributing some of the prizes was Mayor of Craigavon Councillor Mark Baxter, who said: “The event was a great success and showcased the brilliant talents of all the musicians who took part. I was delighted to welcome people from near and far to this great venue and visitors remarked how beautiful an area it was to host this prestigious event. Competition was tough and the atmosphere was electric.
“Congratulations to all the winners and all who took part, you put on a great show and it was a great honour to be Chieftain at the event.”
Mervyn Herron, RSPBA NI, Contest Administrator, said: “We are delighted with the turn out to the championships and the park was a great venue to showcase the many musicians who took part. It was a great day out for all.”
