At a press conference in Belfast in September 1980 details of the 19th Belfast Festival at Queen’s were announced. It was noted country music fans were celebrating the decision, after years of lobbying and protests,that the genre was worthy of a place in the programme, and Boxcar Willie had been booked for two Ulster Hall appearances, supported by Jean Shepard and Second Fiddles.
