MP calls for Straid Primary to remain open

The public event, which was staged in the Straid Congregational Church car park, was held after the Education Authority (EA) launched a consultation process with governors, teaching staff and parents about the possible closure of the school.

Hide AdAddressing those in attendance, Mr Girvan said: “The proposal by the EA to close Straid PS has no support whatsoever. The school plays a vital role in all aspects of community life in this village and any attempt to close the school will be vigorously opposed.
“Generations of families have proudly attended this school and it is my desire to ensure that future generations have that ability too. I will continue to stand in full opposition to these proposals and will work with the community to ensure Straid Primary School keeps its doors open.”
The pre-publication consultation process will run until July 1.
