John scoops teaching honour
John Andrews, a former pupil of Camphill Primary and Cullybackey High School, studied nursing at Queen’s University, trained as a teacher at St. Mary’s College London and has been a volunteer with St John Ambulance since joining the Ballymena Division as a cadet aged 10.
He won the Silver Secondary School Teacher of the Year Award for London and the South East (Pearson’s National Teaching Awards) for his work at Featherstone High School in Ealing.

Hide AdPupils nominated Mr Andrews in the category of secondary school teacher of the year for his ground-breaking work training more than 200 Year Nine students in life-saving skills every year.
Finalists were selected from more than 20,000 nominations and Mr Andrews joins a list of exceptional teachers who are the stars of the profession.
The award citation reads: “John was nominated for his Award by no fewer than six of his grateful students one of whom said ‘I just want to thank you for being awesome!’”
